Project definition
A.   Project overview
During this module, I have been set a brief which enables me to create my own project with the objective of setting myself a position in the fashion industry and making links to those relevant brands or companies in this business. I intend to explore British high street fashion and Chinese high street fashion. Because many Chinese fashion design inspired by the Western countries, more and more design style of Chinese brands similar as western countries, the young Chinese acceptance of western culture. In the project, I decide to investigate British brand, contact a specific brand and design a collection for them suit for Chinese market. I will inform them of my project and request their advice and support.

B.   Rationale of project or idea
My aim is doing some research about brand River Island, and finds a Chinese brand’s design similar as it. I will get a full understanding of both of River Island and Ochirly (Chinese Brand). My project idea is combining River Island’s own inspiration and Chinese market to develop a range of casual wear for River Island, which includes jackets, dresses, shirts, coats, trousers, etc. These designs must be suit for Chinese market. This diffusion range will be developed over a course of twelve weeks beginning on the 27th of January 2012 and ending on the 27th of April 2012.

C.   Objectives

D.   SWOT
·         Strengths: Understanding of the apparel market in China
·         Weaknesses: organizational capacity of research and concept development pages
·         Opportunities: A chance to do own project which giving help for future career
                          Improve skills in design works
With help from each other in the group
                          following advice of tutors

E.   Position of statement
Currently, I am a fashion design final year student studying at the University of East London. This brief really helps me to asses my future career. By doing this project, I definitely understand myself, which skills are my strengths and which skills are my weaknesses. These will help me to determine the future direction of work. Throughout my degree, I have designed tailored garments and my pattern cutting and construction skills are better than design work. Therefore, my first thought towards positioning myself in the fashion industry would be a pattern maker or importing and marketing western countries’ apparel to China.
