Creative Industry

Discussion with Lucy Jones on 4th Oct. 2010
     I missed the first session for this module: Discourse for the Creative Industries. On the weekend after I arrived to London I asked classmates and knew what did they do on Tuesday, and I checked the UEL plus download the PowerPoint about week one discourse.

    The first question: what are the creative industries? Lucy asked us to write down our thoughts about the definition. Actually, I am not clear about it. Therefore, I use Google to do some research.

    These are my findings from my research.

    The creative industries refer to a range of economic activities which are concerned with the generation or exploitation of knowledge and information.
The standard definition of the creative industries used by the DCMS (Department for culture Media and Sport) and includes 13 industries:

l  Art and antiques
l  Computer games
l  Crafts
l  Design
l  Designer fashion
l  Film and video
l  Music
l  Performing arts
l  Publishing
l  Software
l  TV and radio

    There is a video shows UK is at geographical and the motional heart of the creative industries and the ideas generate here influence and excite people around the world. UK creativity demonstrates provocative originality that loves to challenge and innovate. “The creative industries described as a soft word and hard word. Creative being soft word and Industry being the hard word” said by Sir John Sorrell chairman of London Design Festival.
